America can be saved - in fact is being saved. It's just happening slowly, and it's being under-reported, and there are a lot of people out there very invested in convincing us that it isn't.

But look at what's been happening over the past 50 years. Look at how long it took for the protest against Vietnam to reach significant numbers. Nearly a decade had passed before we started counting in the hundreds of thousands. Contrast that with the nearly half a million in the streets of New York City alone - before the bombs started to fall on Iraq.

We're becoming more civilized, not less, and that's why they're trying so damned hard to convince us we're becoming barbarians, and we're all alone, and no one will help us. It's because the opposite is happening. The Occupy movement and the siege of the Capital Building in Madison, Wisconsin are evidence of that, people banding together spontaneously, in defiance of those who would drive us apart, for economic justice.

And what about the solidarity movements? They didn't have that in the 60's, people going to live with those the US is bombing the hell out of. That's progress; that's America's soul, still viable, still alive.

It's slow and it's painful, and it's nearly drowned out by divisive voices at every turn, but it's happening. It's perfectly natural to feel frustrated and disgusted sometimes, but please don't forget that the people are moving on with civilization whether the robber barons and their bought priesthood in government like it or not.

The problem with going with your gut as opposed to your head is that the former is so often full of shit. - Randy Chestnut

    •  thank you, you've made me feel better (0+ / 0-)

about the future.  My moral dilemma has been, how could I be personally happy and secure, knowing the world around me was going to hell.  I want to believe, I must believe, it will get better else should I commit suicide?  And what good would that do?
