    Although in this case, even a primitive background check system would have bee useful.

      ... I doubt such a check would have outed Jared Loughner and I know it wouldn't have located Adam Lanza (or any other gun thief). What would it have shown about the Aurora grad student, who had seen a psychiatrist or psychologist, a medical health professional who - I believe - reported nothing about the patient to anyone?

      Background checks will ID and/or deter felons and known terrorists, for example, but will it identify a former member of the violent WeatherUndergound of the 1960's and 70's, who has openly gloated he'd consider engaging in violent acts again if the circumstances required it?

      This is an area where some measures will do some good. That none of them will cure gun violence is no reason to ignore the Gun Culture fixated widespread availability of dangerous guns.

      2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
