specifically the destruction of the planet by this system, how we in the advanced capitalist world will need to actually consume less, how capitalist production continues to destroy the planet. Food can be easily produced, it is the waste, the monoculture that capitalist agriculture introduces for returns to scale, the pollution of our water tables. Development needs to occur in an environmentally sustainable manner, otherwise we continue to destroy the planet that enables our existence. However, things can no be done in a capitalist context as it is so destruction of human beings, it is destructive of the planet ... we do not need continual growth that is part and parcel of the capitalist system as in its absence, profitability starts to fall and the system needs profits to remain at a certain level or they will not produce. In a system in which growth and profitability is not the end-game but human needs and wants are the essential element, we can ensure that everyone is covered and the planet is not further destroyed.
