  •  I guess I'm the person responsible for this (14+ / 0-)

Ramara began the D'var Torah series at the former Street Prophets website some years ago, and a few months ago she asked me to take over the administration and I agreed.  Normally we get only a few comments, when we are just posted on Street Prophets and Elders of Zion - and even when we've been honored to be cross posted on Anglican Kossacks - but I was amazed that my diary for this week appeared immediately on Community Spotlight, which attracted several very negative individuals.

These three or so posters may have been responsible for over half of the 75 or so comments my diary generated.  I don't know why they didn't make their point and move on but they didn't.  When one wrote that he/she is very upset by these diaries, I was tempted to respond "then don't read them" but I refrained and I really appreciated Commonmass's reply - that he/she must have been hurt by religion.

I guess I am partly responsible for all this because I was responding to a negative poster from a previous diary of a month or more ago, and this person actually made one comment - that later generations of Jews (speaking of the Talmudic period) should be praised for finding the mass deaths of Egyptians abhorrent, but the original text is still abhorrent - but this poster was immediately shot down by one of the posters that had taken over the commenting.

So I need to apologize to all for all the problems my diary inadvertently caused.  It was not my intent to do so.

Should we continue the D'var Torah series?  I don't want to cause problems, but I don't think 3 or so very outspoken people should censor others.
