When my husband and I lived in Arlington and he was doing a post-doc fellowship, 1994-96. Nice church, good people.

    •  As a member of Mt Olivet I would slightly disagree (0+ / 0-)

with the characterization that few of the members come from the neighborhood. Now maybe it is a question of semantics but MANY members live within walking distance of the church. Many also come from farther away, other parts of Arlington mostly. We live off Harrison and George Mason up by the hospital and have many church friends who live a similar distance, some even closer. Lots over by Westover.

As for the protest - we didn't attend. We normally go to the later service and I chose not to change our plans. Although I admit to a certain curiosity, I also did not want to expose my child to such a hateful spectacle.

The church sent out a letter to members warning us, etc.  The churches only informal "counterprotest" was to schedule our female pastor to give the sermon that day (she wasn't originally on the schedule).
