    if we can ban fully automatic weapons, then precedent is set that we have the authority to ban certain types of weapons.  If we can require a permit to carry a concealed weapon then precedent is set that we can require a license for weapons.  If we can regulate them as is obvious be the aforementioned policies, why can't we require an insurance policy on weapons like we do automobiles.

    Ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines (clips or whatever you want to call them) and make people have a license to be a gun owner.  Require liability insurance on the weapon to ensure if you do not keep your weapon safely stored that you will have the means to be responsible is it is used to commit a crime or an atrocity.  

    This would have a benefit to gun owners as well.  Having a license would render the gun show scenerio moot because a license would be a pre-qualifier.  Show your license, write down the number and the sale would be made without a waiting period and your insurance would be automatically notified, free of charge.
