    friends, and I can say definitively (and anecdotally) that the only time I've seen semi-auto capability is on shotguns and sidearms.

      None of them had more than a 4-5 shot capability.  Remington, Winchester, and Browning, to name a few, all make legitimate hunting rifles that are semiautomatic.  Then there's all those .22 semiautomatics like the Ruger10/22 or Marlin model 60 that are used for hunting small game.

        necessary, given the crack shots I've been around in my lifetime.

        It's not relevant because semi-auto rifles would only be restricted as far as any other gun that exceeded the fire rate requirement, but if you need a semi-auto hunting rifle then you're not a proficient handler of the weapon, or you're using too small a caliber.
