  •  This whole event, not just the president's speech (12+ / 0-)

captured the cultural shifts that have taken place and are taking place in this country. The words of all the speakers, the colors of the crowd...the whole event. The President's speech out of the context of this morning would not have been as powerful.

Even the plastic looks pasted on a couple of the Rs contributed to this most amazing inauguration day and the changes that are underway.

I cried - during the poem, during the benediction, during parts of the speech.... I've never cried during an inauguration.

    •  I have---the old Bush White House. (2+ / 0-)

      Twice in a row---actually.

The Onion says----scholars have discovered---the Mayan word for "Apocalypse" in fact---translates more accurately as: "Time of pale obese gun monsters."

Not during the speech, or during the swearing-in, but during JT's take on "America the Beautiful."

"Why are you crying, baby," my SO asked.

"That voice," I said. "It goes back to my childhood..."

What I was thinking as I was crying: "My generation... We're the adults now... and we're in charge!" It is truly our turn, because it wasn't snatched away from us last November -- as well it could have been, Nate Silver notwithstanding. Obama literally held his ground. And I am so, so proud of him, and so proud of us for not letting it get stolen away.

      And now, to work!
