digits...  Sometimes I wonder; not trying to excuse but some people can be pretty obtuse.

    •  I get what you're saying, but (14+ / 0-)

There's a certain type of obtuse person who finds bigoted stereotypes funny.

When someone sees a picture like this and thinks it's funny enough to share for all to see, including African Americans (some of his FB friends -- former classmates, from what I can tell, and I don't see them interacting with each other very much), and he thinks others will laugh, well, obviously the only people he's thinking about are other white people who find bigoted stereotypes funny.

      Nobody else was worth considering.

That's why I think it went beyond him just being a moron.

      •  So true, something my sister and I decided to do (7+ / 0-)

once our parents were gone, were to be more selective in the relatives and friends we spend time with or even keep in touch with. We were reminded from them dying of rare cancers and not that old either, that life is too short to put up with bigots and racists and haters in our lives.  We cut some people off because the relationships were too stressful as these types are filled with anger, loathing, and negativity and hate.

      •  This kind of response helps them learn. (14+ / 0-)

If you had been mean or nasty in what you wrote, his anger would have made him more determined, triggered a stress response, and interfered with his reasoning.

This is how we change people, one at a time, about racism, homophobia, Islamaphobia, etc.

Glad you reminded folks very often it is right under our noses, we just have to make the effort to do it right.

Oh, BTW. The real reason only 7 people missed work:

It's a national holiday, in a town most people work for the Gov. ;)
