    The upshot is that if you are on ~100% renewables and you want to have enough storage to compensate for even 1 cloudy day, or 1 day where the wind isn't blowing, you need a huge number of pumped storage sites to supply the US with energy. What's your backup when all your pumped storage is used up?

    Also, you're drastically changing the environment in a not very friendly way.

    That's why intermittency is a big deal, storage is hard, very expensive, and rather energy intensive to create.
