  •  These two words shouldn't be interchangeable, but (13+ / 0-)

they are, as used by the corporatist MSM.

By MSM standards, a "moderate or centrist or corporatist" Democrat can be an absolute conservative fiscal hawk, so long as he support one of the following agendas:  immigration reform, marriage equality, or is a pro-choice Dem.
And, because of this, many low information voters (including those who lean to the left, but don't have much knowledge of the stances of various politicians and/or candidates) are fooled into believing that some of the most fiscally conservative politicians, are liberals or moderates.

Of course, this is intentional.  Really, according to the MSM, there are only two parties:  the Corporatist (DLC, Third Way, etc.) Democrats, and the Culturally Conservative (Tea Party) Republicans.

Until the corporate media is reigned in, it is hard to see how liberals will make much progress "mainstreaming" their views.

Heck, they don't even have a voice on TV (with the exception of MSNBC, which is not readily accessible in my part of the country, unless you purchase the top tier of Cable TV).

Nothing personal against say, Washington Post's E. J. Dionne, but he is certainly not a liberal, much less a populist.  Yet, he is an example of a 'talking head' that gets on the Sunday talk/news programs.  And on the few occasions that Katrina vanden Heuval gets on George's show, she is almost always "talked over," to the point that one cannot even make out what she's saying.

Thank goodness for DKos and other liberal blogs.  But, we really need to attempt to do more to get a toehold Cable and Network TV.  (It was a shame that we lost Current TV, although it was not available in my area, and as I understand it, had very limited distribution.)

Thanks for bringing up this topic.  It is one that needs much more discussion.
