Klobuchar.  She debated a teabagger for an hour about which one wanted more austerity.

    •  You nailed it! They are all fiscal conservatives, (0+ / 0-)

and mostly (a couple of them, I know very little about their stances on social issues) moderate on social issues.

And most of these lawmakers are "New Dems," or DLCers.

Commenter Nada Lemming (below) references Amy Klobuchar arguing that "she wanted more austerity than her Tea Party opponent."

Well, I heard Tim Kaine (on C-Span) argue the same during one of his debates with a Republican opponent.  Kaine even bragged that he supported Bowles-Simpson's proposal.

He also said that if he were elected, he would join the "Gang of Eight," with his buddy Warner.

So I ask, and not to be contentious, but for understanding and clarification--why have these obviously extremely fiscal conservative Democratic lawmakers been elected (in the first place), and then re-elected?

[Especially since these two lawmakers are going to support deep cuts to the social insurance programs.  Both Bowles-Simpson's proposal and the Gang of Eight's proposal make extremely deep cuts to Social Security.]

    •  easier to get funds for conservaDems (0+ / 0-)

especially when you have people like Steve Israel running the D-trip. Menendez seems to be a better egg, but I suspect the DSCC is still pretty much geared toward supporting corporatists.
