    necessary to step away for a few days, Charlie Pierce is a good stand-in.  I read him daily anyway because he's a great, lively writer and I like his politics.  He has a solid core of reader-commenters and there are some pretty good ones among them.  The real difference is that it's his one voice driving the thing, which helps keep it harmonious, but also doesn't create quite the same spontaneity as here.  There is a sense of comity  among his readers, but nothing quite like the community here.  When you need a drama-free version of DKos for a few days, I highly recommend it.

      His posts from the Inaugural weekend are especially impressive. (Here's the link to the main blog, and then one would have to backtrack a bit.)
      The commentary there is pretty limited, as you say, but then again as you note it's not intended to be the same kind of community.
