having lost my Dad to cancer two years ago. He went from the hospital to in-home hospice, our collective decision but mostly his. He had always admitted what "a good run" he had had and left with no regrets. It made it easier on my mother and siblings. It also helped that he made the three day gap between Christmas day and my mother's birthday. Years ago he told me I would never know how much losing his dad (my granddad) had impacted him. I said I probably did thinking that odds were good he would pre-decease me and knowing how I would feel. When I think of my dad, it warms my heart. God bless.
