  •  Exactly what my father said in 1974 (15+ / 0-)

My late father was McCain's exact contemporary in the Navy and thoroughly detested the man.  Dad could never forgive the hideous deaths and maimings of his friends, and was offended by Nixon's lionization of McCain upon his return from Vietnam.

Dim Son was evacuated to the Oriskany before anyone else, where he was shunned by most.  To add insult to injury, he was shipped off to France for R&R while the survivors lay in hospital.  McCain was transferred to another unit for a fresh start, and the rest is history.   There are probably a number of other elderly men who haven't forgotten, but won't say much in public, other than that they would never vore for him.
