    but the case comes out of the Catholic hospital's actions which were to not act as if the fetuses were separate living beings.

    It is my opinion that the pro-life activists talk about when life begins because it has a strong positive emotional appeal that ties into how we feel when we look at babies but that the actual underlying motive for them is one of condemnation of women's sexuality.

    When we get down to the hard cases the Catholic hospitals don't show any actual concern for life. This case, the one in Ireland where the Indian national died, and the one in the US where the nun was excommunicated for approving saving a woman's life are all cases where the religious doctrine showed no concern for the actual survival chances of the fetus.

    'No abortion' comes out of the same doctrine as the one time opposition to using pain killers during labor: the thought that painful and possibly fatal childbirth is a right and necessary punishment of women for the sins of Eve.
