  •  Thanks, miracle. (16+ / 0-)

Both my mother and my wife worked in hospice care. I gratefully accept your compliment on their behalf and thank you for it.

Back in my church-going days, I was nominated for a chair on a committee. The woman behind me heard my name and tapped me on the shoulder whispering, "Are you (my mom's name)'s son? She was the hospice nurse for my husband. Oh, she meant so much to me and my family. You're mother is an angel."

    I nearly wept.

We are about to begin hospice care for my mother, who is 96 and has Lewy body dementia. I am so grateful to people like your mother and your wife for what they do to help folks facing end-of-life care, both patients and families.

The peer-reviewed medical literature has reported again and again that hospice care not only is cheaper than intensive medicalization, but also fosters better quality of life for patient and family, and, paradoxically, even longer survival in some settings. (I've spent 25 years in medical research in chronic diseases of aging. It's part of my job to be aware of this work.)

Jindal is either an ignorant twit or deliberately cruel. Or, perhaps, both.
