    Could the treasury raise money between now and May that goes way beyond the amount needed to cover the bills by then?  It sounds like they are 'suspending' the debt ceiling until may - not creating a new ceiling.

      To add to RichM's question: so if Obama can raise the debt ceiling himself, can he raise it high enough to cover ALL future spending for the current budget? If so, then the debt ceiling as an issue goes away until the next budget is needed. And maybe that's soon? or not?  This would postpone the battle to the budget battle, which is the right place for it.
