  •  Does Reid think Republicans won't (20+ / 0-)

just nuke the filibuster when they get the majority again, or something?

Hell, Republicans are in the process of rigging the presidential election so that Democrats can never win it again. They won't think twice about nuking the filibuster when they get the majority.

    •  More Good Cop/Bad Cop (13+ / 0-)

If you're running a Good Cop/Bad Cop scam, you need the Bad Cop.

Fixing the filibuster de-balls the Bad Cop, so Corporatist D's will not go there.

For example, Obama campaigned on raising taxes on those earning more than 1/4 million per year. The Corporatists D's did not want to do this, because a) they are or intend to be wealthy, and b) they are shills for the wealthy. So they needed an asshole to blame so they could say "Hey, those mean R's made us raise the limit to 1 million! It wasn't our fault, we're the Good Cop!!!"

The Democratic party is controlled by Corporatists.

Everything that supports Corporatist supremacy zips through Congress, and escapes accountability.

      • Declare any kind of protest that might violate a law to be a terrorist act? Check.
      • Indefinite detention of US citizens accused of said terrorism? Check.
      • Torture? Check.
      • Free trade deals that exploit the workers and environments of all signers, for Corporate profit? Check.
      • Crush unions. Check.
      • I'm so sick of making this list. Check.

Anything that supports the middle and poverty classes is subject to Good Cop/Bad Cop.

I'm not going to make that list here, 'cause you all know it.

      Just remember:
The Good Cop is not on your side.

The only encouraging thing is that the Bad Cop is so fucked up right now that it is in danger of self-destruction, and despite their best efforts, the Corporatist Democrats may not be able to save the idiot R's from themselves like they did in 2010. The R's only hope right now is to game the system via gerrymandering scams so they can't lose no matter how badly they suck.

in our hearts of hearts.  The TEABAGGERS know this; that's why they're so crazy that they've destroyed the Republican party.  BOTH MAINSTREAM PARTIES are part of the problem.  BOTH MAINSTREAM PARTIES serve the Masters Of The Universe and pant like puppies to become part of their social scene.  Thirty years of Republican rule has cemented the power of Wall Street and a few large industrial and extraction corporations over the 99% of mere "citizens".  We are neutralized and politically castrated.

The question is, what do we do about it?  We've tried working within the system, and we've tried fighting it.  Neither has been very successful.  The one method I've seen that does seem to have some success is ignoring them.  Working outside the System, developing alternative channels of trade, interpersonal economics, and strong human relations.  Minimizing consumption of corporate provender, and thus the need for bank-controlled currency or debt.  Accepting a good natural lifespan and rejecting excessive medical interventions and with them subordination to the corporate-dominated and currency-siphoning Official Medical System.  Making the dominance of the 1% irrelevant, by making the things that they dominate irrelevant.

But I have to admit, freedom is relative.  We cannot get entirely free of them until we have completely undercut their foundations, and we can't do that overnight.  This is a very long haul, and in the interim, perhaps conventional politics can occasionally make things a Little Less Bad.  But as we see with the new wrinkle on filibuster, gains are likely to be exceedingly small.
