    ... especially smoked salmon like I could get when I lived out west.  I like fried fresh trout.  Fried fresh walleyed pike like my mother made.

    The idea of flavoring a vodka with salmon....

    Lutefisk is something my mother made every Xmas eve for her and Dad.  Neither my brother nor I would eat it because of the smell, so she made her famous fried chicken for us kids.

    When I was 41, I was at Mom's for Xmas eve and she was soaking lutefisk and putting it in fresh water every hour or two for a couple of days before then until she was satisfied all the lye was out.  She said the secret to good lutefisk was baking it.  I tried it..., and was totally astonished that when it's baked like Mom made it, there's negligible flavor - it's cod; little or no flavor; the only real flavor is the melted butter one dips flakes of fish into.  Mom said she couldn't stand the gelatinous mess of boiled lutefisk.  She died a few years later but that's the only time I ever had lutefisk - and totally surprised myself by liking it!
