  •  I think that's why they're proposing it (6+ / 0-)

Their previous step — keeping people from voting — didn't work. So now they're desperately casting around for something else. Ohio, fortunately, has the repeal referendum. And I guarantee if they start pushing this, it will blow up in their face. Our secretary of voter suppress .... I mean STATE ... Jon Husted mentioned this district-based assignment of electoral votes in passing at a post-election conference and it created such a fuss he had to go back and disown it, saying  he was just throwing it out there but not seriously proposing it.

Bring it on, suckers. We'll defeat every one of your sorry asses for statewide office in 2014.

    Jon Husted is a dick.

    •  I've wondered (0+ / 0-)

whether a referendum of the people could overturn an act of the state legislature regarding the electoral college.  I think some would argue that the Constitution gives the legislature the right to allocate electoral votes anyway they see fit.  If that is so, the legislature could decide to use a ping pong ball match, best two out of three, and there wouldn't be much anyone could do about it.
