We need more Democrats in places like the south, plains, and big sky, and better Democrats in the midwest and on the coasts.

Folks like Landrieu and Pryor and Manchin have pissed me off in the past too, but am I glad we have them rather than Republicans?  Hell yes.

from helping the working class. It allows Republicans to argue that Dems own high unemployment because they had strong majorities for two years and should have been able to pass anything they wanted. You can't create a solid brand when you continuously dilute your brand with blue dogs who are little different from Republicans. If you believe in liberal/progressive values that benefit the vast majority of the population, then support strong advocates of those values and the policies that embody them and make your case proudly. I don't see how you can support nominating a guy like Barrow and claim to be a progressive.

People don't know enough about Congress to understand the distinctions between progressive Democrats and Blue Dogs, or know who controls what. Heck, I bet most people don't even know whether Democrats or Republicans control the House and Senate. All they can be expected to pay attention to are their own Representative and Senators (if that).

That in mind, people in some—even most—parts of the country, geographically speaking, do not respond positively to openly progressive arguments or candidates. If you want progressivism from them, your best bet is electing Democratics who can sell themselves as moderates or conservatives.

Republican voters opposes cuts to entitlements. Please explain to me why we need Dems who support these deeply unpopular policies to win.
