  •  The function of government (and media) (4+ / 0-)

is to keep the American people as far as possible from having any say in our own governance.

We are allowed, with much fanfare and hoopla, to pick which of two Corporate-sponsored candidates we like more. We are also allowed to have some say on Social Issues -- as long as bitter and paralyzing division can be generated around them -- but that's pretty much our role in this de-mock-crazy.

Markos! Not only are the Gates Not Crashed, they've fallen on us. Actual Representatives are what we urgently need, because we have almost none.

    •  What say on social issues? We're mainstream now. (0+ / 0-)

We have no say. Progressives nudge, which is valuable. But for political influence real measurable value needs to be frankly understood, how it's used and how it can be changed & improved. People can be very romantic about their aspirations and effort as if good intentions is a result. Morale is important, but results are the game. Progress takes all kinds of time, people and action, but all kinds and all kinds are not being leveraged. Not powerfully. Spurts here and there, but not a fighting force yet.

Gay rights has been assisted by working within the system, but they've been legislated inch by inch, crumbs thrown one by one, because of in your face activism. The only tangible change has come from punishment by way of holding money back and relentless in your face activism. And GLBT are still legally, officially second class citizens.

We're not allowed that when it comes to economic decisions or war/foreign policy. Not even the pretense we're a factor in those.
