  •  Still don't understand what he's saying here--- (13+ / 0-)

I knew already that Santorum and Mother Theresa both believed contraception goes against the Bible's teaching, Joy Behar or no Joy Behar.
So what difference would Bible-based beliefs make? Most sensible U. S. women (including Freiss's wife, apparently) use the more reliable forms of contraception and consider them practical rather than sinful, which Freiss doesn't seem to understand.
Mother Theresa's refusal to sanction contraceptives for women who had virtually no power to control their sexual lives, was, in my opinion, nothing less than complicity with abuse and poverty.
And Santorum, as everyone knows, is one of the finest thinkers of the 12th century in his views on sex.
So just what difference would have it made to U.S. women voters to know that opposition to birth control was supposedly Bible-based?
The end result is--women who lose contraception lose control over their lives.

      •  Mother Theresa wasn't exactly the saint (5+ / 0-)

many have made her out to be. While she certainly did some good work, she also had some very medieval beliefs, including the nobility of suffering. She frequently rejected things that would eliminate poverty and suffering, preferring to just treat the symptoms. That includes her opposition to contraception, among other things. That her name has become synonymous with saintliness baffles me.
