    picked up on some hints dropped by Sherrod Brown on the Rachel Maddow show. I think Brown was saying that Reid didn't have the votes for anything stronger. So it may not have been his fault.

    While Democrats work to get more people to vote, Republicans work to ensure those votes won't count.

      He could have played hardball and put it to a vote anyway - the Senators that opposed it would have fallen in line, because voting against it would guarantee a primary challenge from the left.

      The only rational explanation is that he personally didn't want it passed. He should resign in shame.

        little improvements he got in his "deal" with McConnell.  And it would have undermined his authority in the Democratic caucus.
        Just think of the great respect people have for Pelosi -- it's because she only had votes on bills she knew she could get passed.
        I think it's a crappy deal, but there are Democratic senators who are more to blame than Reid. I'd like to know which ones were undermining him on this.
