checking the link. Clarification comment above. This is pretty interesting (once you get past horrifying) since it adds to the growing exposure of daily gun violence and deaths by the media with what else is out there, right next to suburban play grounds.

Your side note isn't slight IMHO. Goes right with the dudes who were firing an AK in a neighborhood last week and several bullets went into homes in another neighborhood, then ricocheted around inside. This has been going on in poor neighborhoods because of gang wars. "Coming soon to YOUR suburban neighborhood. Not the gangsters, just neighbors afraid of the gangsters."

One other reality check for the Rambo wannabes. The picture used in the media reports was from Google. What do they think the government cameras can get? Some understand pieces like that. Really grasping the consequences of their imaginary actions? Limited upper cortex executive function capacity.

when we decided to put siding on our house in Denver.  I didn't tell anyone but part of my decision to use steel siding was seeing what happened with the vinyl siding when the slugs hit it from so far away.  I harbor no illusions that the thin steel will protect against a gun fired from close range, but I have some hope that if something is fired from a distance or at an angle, maybe it will bounce off.

Since we put up the siding I've learned that our neighbor across the cul de sac (an assistant US attorney) had gunshots fired either around his house or maybe even hit his house.  It was thought to be a gang action from the park behind him, and maybe not in anger, but no place is safe.
