  •  Good idea, Lava, Mom taught me that and so much (7+ / 0-)

more as she was a nurse and she was big about cleaning counter surfaces with a bleach spray as well as bathroom surfaces , washing hands all of the time, and wiping off the tops of cans and jars..canned goods too....and wash veggies well and fruit too from the store.

Sick people are in the grocery touching fruit, veggies and packages. We wash our hands after even touching a box of cereal we buy, during flu season, as I see sick people leave the doctor and go to the local grocery all of the time.

    •  brings up my pet peeve advertisement (6+ / 0-)

which shows clueless husband changing baby on wooden surface that is evidently a food prep area as well.  The sanitation wipes are advertised as cleaning up bacteria and germs.
However, as anyone who has worked in butcher shop or food prep will tell you, wooden surfaces have to be sealed or nasty stuff gets deep done in the grain of the wood.  What that guy was doing would probably never be sanitized away except by heavy duty industrial cleaning of surface followed by sealing the surface

can't watch a lot of shows especially on FoodTV.  It really throws me off when they don't wash their hands or handle food correctly.  Rachael Ray used to do this constantly.  She would handle meat then move on to whatever else.

Now she doesn't but that 30 minute show I would only watch to see what way she would handle a chicken then start slicing a tomato for raw salad.
