  •  Because even responsible gun owners cannot (8+ / 0-)

stop kids from finding their hidden idols, so all the bellyaching about gun safes and trigger locks being an imposition on responsible gun owners is just plain BS.  Even with gun safes and trigger locks, kids will find a way to get their hands on some firearms - that is the way children are.  The responsibility and the onus is on the responsible gun owners to safeguard their firearms, not on children or other people. While a majority of gun owners are responsible and make sure these tragedies don't happen, a small percentage of such a large number of weapons is too large a number and results in over 100,000 people getting shot every year, of which about 32,000 die (yes that includes suicides because a good % of those tragedies would be averted if access to firearms were not so easy, especially for people with mental illness or children).  Just like the majority of drivers are not and will not drive drunk but subject ourselves to drunk driving laws/limits/roadblocks/stops, all gun owners will have to eventually assume the responsibilities that comes with their right/privilege/power and one of them is having sensible regulations to make sure that the irresponsible minority does not cause so much carnage.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.
