  •  Then who else on the Dem bench? (0+ / 0-)

I don't know much from here in MD of y'alls local politics. Outside of the current Gov and Reps, can only think of Christie Vilsack myself. Possible anti-establishment candidate among the towns and farms?

And what are some of the local issues that may shape the primaries and general?

    •  Good questions, especially about the local issues. (0+ / 0-)

    •  We've got a deep bench. (0+ / 0-)

Lots of accomplished people ready to go. Congressman Braley most likely for the Senate. A number of folks who could go for the congressional seat, including some well-qualified women.

    •  Gun control will be big. (1+ / 0-)

It was something that Vilsack mentioned as being one of the reasons she lost....to Steve F-ing King......and this was before the gun control issue reappeared on the national stage.
If the Dems don't nominate a strong pro-gun rights candidate, plan on this going GOP.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

      •  I think that's true in about 2/3's of the states. (0+ / 0-)

Which is why I truly don't expect that strong of a "gun control" bill.  It would still be political suicide in many states.

        What a shame, too.

But an entrenched gun culture such as the one that exists in the US, is not going to change overnight.

Hopefully, you can nominate someone who's not an over-the-top fiscal hawk, though.  If I were there, that would be my major concern.  Especially since we are still "in limbo" regarding a Grand Bargain.
