  •  I liked both Harkin and Tsongas. (2+ / 0-)

In retrospect, it was really unfortunate for us that Clinton won. This is now his party:  supporters of NAFTA, welfare reform, financial deregulation.

Whatever made us think this guy had any political talent?

He is the most brilliant politician of his generation. And I don't say that lightly. He is fucking brilliant. I've got nothing but admiration for his skill.

He used that brilliance and skill to help shut down one whole side of the political debate in the United States, position the Democratic party to be the party of the plutocrats, and dismantle the new deal. Also to hand our country's jobs to overseas sweatshops and hand our country's economy to an untrammeled Wall St coterie that ended up bringing the global economy to its knees and has left us with a political culture of austerity.

So, 10 out of 10 for talent, drive, and brilliance; 3 out of 10  for good policy, morality, and human decency.

      •  If the existence of the American middle class (0+ / 0-)

and a stable global economy to do business in are the cost of Democratic  electoral victories, that is too high a price.
