  •  What a great diary and 1st class (5+ / 0-)

photos! My hubby works in high-end video and audio, so my weak eyes are a bit 'trained.' LOL

I was born in Washington, D.C. Raised in the surrounding suburbs and here in east central Florida. I know how great the Mall is. This is definitely a treat + historical experience for you both.

If you visit again, do the tours through the Capitol Bldg., and the White House. Believe me, you will leave w/such a sense of awe and pride of being an American.  T and R!!

      Thanks for stopping.

    •  Thank you very much. (3+ / 0-)

Years ago in the late 80s, Dennis Hastert was elected to the House from IL. (He later became speaker of the house in 1999.) Two teacher friends and I went to DC for a science teacher convention in 87 or 88. They knew Hastert as a fellow teacher before he was elected. We looked him up when we got there. He gave us the most amazing behind the scenes tour of the Capitol you can imagine. We road the underground train, went onto the floor, saw the back rooms, etc. I would like to have another tour. But, it would pale in comparison.
