this site and this diarist!  If he doesn't, he's got some splainin' to do because this is a huge indictment, informal though it is.  This is big news, in other words.

On the other hand, I hope it's not fake.  That would be disastrous for the site and for the gun control movement.  If I were going to pull a Texas Air National Guard stunt on Kos, though, this is how I'd do it.

Question for the diarist: has your former employer vetted this or been made aware of it's publication?

    •  This story is absolutely true (8+ / 0-)

And good luck with the NRA suing - there are at least 20 people with immediate knowledge of the situation.

And I do not have a non-disclosure with my former employer, so there is no notification requirement. Besides, I think that making this public 20 years after these events is about time.

If the anti-NRA folks don't grab this and run with it, they're crazy.

Were any of the 20-odd folks who have intimate knowledge of this situation aware that you were about to drop this little nuke into the raging gun control debate?  That's the import of my question above, not whether you've violated any non-disclosure agreement.   If those folks are blindsided by your disclosure then their willingness  and ability to back the story up (due to lack of time to reflect on the events before being thrown into the fray) might be compromised.

In other words, if this gets the kind of exposure that it warrants in the tradmed, then there will be folks hounding not just you but those 20 people (not to mention others who really don't have direct knowledge of the events but who'll be willing to chat with Bill O'Reilly anyway).  If those 20 people (and especially the employee who originally brought the complaint against LaPierre) are not prepared for the onslaught, the ways in which they deal with the exposure can potentially muddy the waters rather than focusing on LaPierre's craziness.

Also, the firm itself, having already ignored the threat of violence from LaPierre in its rationale for dumping the NRA account, may want to put a lid on this because it exposes their internal workings too much, as well as puts their commitment of client confidentiality into question should they lay all the cards on the table.

Either way, brace yourself!  And thanks for making this public.  I hope it scores a direct hit against the NRA insanity that we're living under and that all my concerns are unjustified.

        •  Hmm, this is, interesting. (0+ / 0-)
If those 20 people (and especially the employee who originally brought the complaint against LaPierre)
It is really sad when a comment reveals so blatantly the individual did not carefully read either the diary or numerous comments from the diarist.

Bruce, I suggest you read the diary carefully and move on.

FWIW, I think the NRA would be very, very stupid to draw attention to this. They are stupid in a lot of ways. CYA they are very good at.

You should know a lot of political harm has been done to major candidates - Dukakis, Gore, Kerry especially, and many more down the line, by false reports circulated by emails. The under the radar route can be just as effective, and possibly more, if the information is true. There's a judgement call in this situation. Life is full of those. So be it.
