Not so much.  His saving grace is he's the least bad option.  Dave Keene is on a one man mission to put every American to sleep and Asa Hutchinson has availability issues.  That leaves the board, which should probably be kept away from any and all microphones, or the feckless personalities on the NRA channel.

I have been almost totally indifferent to the whole gun thing. It's been a non-factor for me in whether I support or don't support a candidate. The Newtown shootings were tragic, but didn't make me much more interested in engaging the issue.

      Then LaPierre opened his mouth.

He's not at all the most outspoken gunnie I know who always quizzes me about candidates' gun control positions. In 2008, he expressed a lack of enthusiasm for both McCain and Obama and no, he would not have preferred Hillary. I asked him if there was anyone else in the field he would have liked better and said, "I really wanted Kucinich."

      I just had to laugh.

Alas, most gun lovers aren't like that.

      Jon Husted is a dick.

      •  Most gun owners are Republicans. (2+ / 0-)

But that divide is about 60/40.  Democratic gun owners are a non-trivial voting block, and we'd do well to remember that.

I doubt if very many of them oppose the common sense and perfectly Constitutional reforms now floating about improving America's totally failed, from a public health and safety POV, gun policies.  Most of them understand perfectly well that no one is coming for their guns.

Aren't you glad that the clueless won't get a chance to run the country again, just yet? Yeah. Me too.

Thirty-six percent of Democrats have a favorable opinion of the NRA.  How much you want to bet they also find any of your so-called reforms constitutional and common sense?

Reread the survey you cited.  Thirty-six percent of Democrats do not have a favorable opinion of the NRA.  The figure you cite is 36% of Democrats who are gun owners have a favorable opinion of the NRA, and since about 40% of Democrats own guns, it works out to less than 15% of Democrats with a favorable opinion of the NRA.  A more telling point is that 58% of Democrats who own guns have an unfavorable opinion of the NRA.

Also worth noting is that the survey you cite was taken immediately after 12/14 and during that brief, shining moment when LaPierre was temporarily keeping his trap shut.  I strongly suspect approval of the NRA by Democrats has fallen off sharply since LaPierre opened his yap.

Go peddle your gun lobby propaganda somewhere else.

              •  You are absolutely incorrect. (0+ / 0-)

Read it again.  It's 36 percent of Democrats, regardless if they own guns.  I'll accept that you made a mistake this time.  If you persist, well others can view summaries themselves and judge how honest you are.

Please don't bother responding until you admit your mistake.

              •  Also, you might note the date of that poll. (0+ / 0-)

It's a week after the NRA press conference.  Step out of your bubble for five minutes and smell the fresh air.
