  •  The baseline is as Aji said above: we all benefit (16+ / 0-)

from public works in multiple dimensions, every day of our lives.

Beyond that, I've had federally-subsidized student loans and my older daughter has had Pell Grants and fed student loans. (I attended public universities to boot, and so has my daughter, for law school.) My younger daughter and I have been on county medical insurance when I was seriously underemployed. And now my younger daughter and I collect SS benefits--myself from SSDI, and her as a dependent.

The personal, direct support I receive from the federal government makes it possible for us to maintain a middle-class lifestyle for my family, however tenuous that may be from time to time.

Some DKos series & groups worth your while: Black Kos, Native American Netroots, KosAbility, Monday Night Cancer Club. If you'd like to join the Motor City Kossacks, send me a Kosmail.
