  •  Have you ever done any prison time? (15+ / 0-)
His suicide says more about him than our flawed legal system IMHO
Our Government(s) run the largest systematic institutionalized system of torture the world has seen in the post war era.

Several million men live every day subject to random beatings, murder, and rape in hells that are viewed in Europe the same way Mexican or Venezualian prisons are viewed here.

The conditions are horrific, and they're all the worse (as Manning could tell you, if he ever gets out) when people in power have an interest in breaking you.

Suicide is not always an irrational choice.

This is not, btw, "slashing tires".  This is grabbing the files.

But many people have as you point out. The vast majority do not kill themselves in prison, or prior to that at time of conviction, or prior to that during the trial process, or prior to going to trial.

And I am talking about what Anon is doing, its the internet equivalent of theft actually, if we go by "grabbing files".

And I have had my personal info stolen by a person/persons who did so to use it as hostage/show how weak the security is for a certain company (you know good intentions and all). Have you had your personal info stolen?

      •  A man has a 25% chance of being raped his first (7+ / 0-)

        24 hours in lock-up.

That's guys who aren't being targeted for pay back by a Government irate about their activism.

That's the reality he was facing.

Are you entirely unable to distinguish between Persons, who have a right to privacy, and Governments, which only have illegitimate efforts to maintain secrecy?

      •  And your point is? (6+ / 0-)

Maybe he knew he couldn't defend himself for 30 seconds.   Maybe he knew he would spend 30 years being a prison bitch.   Sorry he didn't live up to your standards on how tough and brave he should in the face of a life time of abuse and torture.   How long would you last in jail?

Having your personal ID stolen has nothing to do with this.   NOTHING. I can steal your diamond ring to finance a trip to a spa, or I can stead your grocery cart to feed my family.  They are both stealing, so according to you, enough said.

If you think your comment is cogent, I don't see it.

      •  Excuse me? The files (4+ / 0-)

belong to us. You know, "we the people" without whom there is no government, and through whom [legitimate] governments are empowered and/or disempowered.

No, we don't need to know all the details of all the files, which is why Anonymous will be heavily redacting them prior to release to media, which will no doubt redact them further. I am not afraid to get a clear idea of what our government's up to in the area of judicial oppression of the people. It certainly looks like the government is terrified of us. I find that... fascinating.

    •  I did one night with Cornel West and 18 other (8+ / 0-)

prisoners the weekend the MLK memorial was dedicated (?).

Overnight, we were not "in population" and the conditions were still horrible. We were shuffled around from location location four times. No food and water and we were reduced to using an open toilet in a corner of the cell. All surfaces were cement and freezing. Most of the night I could not fall asleep quick enough before I had to get back up and move around to increase my body temp.

The next day we were in population, and that was even less comfortable, especially since none of us had had any real sleep. I cannot imagine living under those conditions for an extended period of time.
