  •  Re: The UK situation vis a vis Australia (0+ / 0-)

The Australia opposition candidate and likely next PM, the UK born and  "public" school educated Tony Abbott will do the same things to Australia if elected here. He in fact works in concert with the UK conservatives and the US AEI. The Labor Party which is currently in power has made life difficult for itself by several missteps and Abbott has taken advantage of it. Labor has held on for a few years, but if polls are accurate the conservatives will take control later this year.

This is somewhat mystifying as Australia, under Labor leadership has escaped almost all the bad effects of the GFC. However, that has not stopped Abbott for attacking based on "economic" credentials and a credulous public has digested it.

The return of conservative leadership to Australia will be a laboratory test to see if the austerity budgets can take a relatively healthy economy and turn it into a recessionary one.

Side note = I will return to the US for good this Spring/Summer (US) and will miss most of the fun down here, but it will be great to be back home.
