    security holes and by their general reputation.

    The Wall Street Journal once gleefully reported that they had brought out their latest release with much less bugs by the brilliant method of not allowing applications to use any of the features which were giving them trouble.  (It was in the last week of 1999, now behind a pay wall.)

    MS has always been quite open about their first priority being speed out the door.

      Did you consider the amount of testing that needs to be done for even a single line of code change is software that's as big as an operating system?

        it takes to start up, how long it takes to update and how much resources it takes to develop an app for it compared to the same app on other systems.

        YMMV...
