    in a flood plain.  The coasts of NY/NJ are part of it...but where I live in PA is also a flood plain, leading down to the Chesapeake Bay.

    Whenever we get three inches of rain, people who were dumb enough to buy houses developed on lower land have water in their basements.

    This kind of flood plain is excellent for farming: that's why there used to be so many farms here.  (FWIW, the farmers back in the day were smart enough to put their houses and barns on higher ground.)

    Developers don't care: put up a bunch of ticky-tacky houses and pocket the profits.

    But the worsening storms are not only affecting the coasts: they're affecting us inland, too.
