In 20 years, you won't be able to live in Kansas. The drought will continue as the great drying out of the plains continues to worsen with the steady decline in winter snowfall. Well, you could live there, but not on a farm. Interestingly enough, I saw some numbers a while back that showed a steady decline in the numbers of Kansas farmers, but a pretty steady acreage under cultivation. Maybe we will start to see these big farms fail with some unpleasant consequences for food prices. What's that old Kansas saying about reaping what you sow?

For if there is a sin against life, it consists perhaps not so much in despairing of life as in hoping for another life and in eluding the implacable grandeur of this life. - Albert Camus

ago. We left I-70 just West of Colby, KS and hopped on US 24 heading East to KC. We were amazed at the number of deserted farms and ghost towns or very soon to be ghost towns along the way. Both the BNSF And Union Pacific were ripping out mainlines that used to service those areas. We stopped and I spoke with a foreman who said that they would be ripping most of the track in Western Kansas due to the fact that people were leaving, businesses were either shuttering or moving to Denver or further East. If the railroads have given up, it's a death knell. We saw plenty of closed gas stations too.

There has been talk of turning a large portion of Western KS into a national park and bison range. That might be a great place for towers as there was a good strong wind in the area.
