about people like that who co-opt the work of others done long since without giving any credit, acting as if they'd invented the whole thing. Part of the reason I don't recommend books by Kingsolver and Pollan -- they act as if they were the first first evah! to discover organics and/or recycling.

We are often so identified with whatever thoughts we may be having that we don’t realize the thoughts are a commentary on reality, and not reality itself. -- Gangaji

    •  I do like both Kingsolver and Pollan (3+ / 0-)

I think they're doing a good job of bringing these important issues into mainstream consciousness. And I'm pretty sure they're aware that they're not the first ones. I saw Michael Pollan in conversation with Wendell Berry a while ago, and he seemed pretty humble to me. Then again, Wendell Berry is not the first one either, it's just old wisdom being passed down from generation to generation. It's just that we've kinda skipped the last two generation or two, that's why folks like Pollan and Kingsolver sound so new to a lot of people. But I really do appreciate their work.
