    Jefferson said a lot of things (like "Sally, I love you").

    Pure democracy can take away the rights of the minority. But we have a Constitution, a judiciary, and all kinds of balances of power that protect minority rights.

    Minority privileges, however, include arbitrary tyrannies protected by our republic. The filibuster is chief among them.

    The minority has the right to be heard. It does not have the right to overrule the majority, or to prevent the majority's choice from being heard.

    What we have in the Senate and elsewhere is executocracy. Any executive can do whatever they want, public or private, with impunity. Notice how the "mob rule" has never done anything for the mob that hasn't been for the further betterment of the mobsters.
