A colleague of mine, who happened to also be a Bishop in the UMC, once told a congregation I was serving that church has the potential to be faith's worst enemy. Church can be so many things-a sacred space for worship and celebrating, a body of believers living in discipleship, a community of care. But it can also be so much that is harmful and hurtful, whited sepulchres, as it were.

I wish you all the best and prayers that you find a church where you and your daughter can be fed, and where you will be inspired to feed others. The Gospel is quite enough to be going on with...no politics are ever necessary from the pulpit.

Almost 10 year old Daughter: "Boys are pretty good, but daughters have sentimental value." Me: "I don't think that phrase means what you think it does." Daughter: "None of them do, Mom. More's the pity. Words have to be flexible in today's world."

I'd love to have you come to my churches, but it'd be a bit of a commute. ;)
