This was during the peak buildup of Vietnam. We DFH's were the enemy. Literally, we were Communists; dirty Commie Pinko Communists.

1967 was the year that shaped my social and political positions for the rest of my life. I had forgotten just how good and bad things had been. A quick review of the Wiki machine for the events of 1967 reminded me all too well. The summer race riots were the worst ever. This is how and why we DFH's are so passionate about these very same issues that continue to infest our country.

Hundreds of people died at the hands of our government inside our own borders. But little was done because most of the victims were poor or militant Black citizens. Or DFH's. "Love it or leave it" was the mantra of the Right. This doesn't include the thousands who were dying for the illegitimate war in Vietnam. And the assassinations that happened before and after 1967. MLK was murdered in 1968. Kent State students were murdered in 1970.

The Smothers Brothers TV show was VERY controversial. The right wingers threatened the brothers and Pat Paulsen. These were not good times.
