    Some members are there because of what their ancestors did centuries ago.
    Some members are there because they are bishops, of one particular church.
    Most members are appointed for life by the government with no popular vote.
    Only about half of them show up on any given day.

    The difference of course is that the Brits have been working on making the House of Lords less ridiculous for at least half a century. The US and the electoral college, not so much.

    Repeal the 2nd amendment.
