Term, but you should know that one of the reasons things are so slow and screwed with SS is because of a combination of job cuts in the agencies and increased workloads in NYS govt.  The people at SS are having to do double and triple workloads, and can't manage it.  I was told this by a person in the COBRA dept, when I wondered why it took 6 months to get my paperwork filed after I was fired.  That said, it seems that the state could find efficiencies that didn't require leaving the neediest people out in the street in an upstate NY winter.  Shame on you Cuomo!

    •  Short term help will be wonderful. (10+ / 0-)

Thanks for the input about SS. marabout40 mentioned that a former state worker was one of the people she worked with in her 'volunteer' work. The woman had been out of work for quite some time.

      •  I sent 25. That's all I can swing right now. (12+ / 0-)

But I'm sure every little bit helps.

Cuomo instituted the property tax cap, to "encourage businesses" to come/stay in the state.  One result (there are many) has been a thinned workforce (myself included) and limits to the kind of help that a Democratic state should be known for.  I'm sure that Sandy only exacerbated the problems.  This is a brutal climate, and it's important for marabout40 to commiserate with whomever she talks to at SS, saying that she understands they are overburdened, but meanwhile she's now essentially out in the freezing street.  No matter how hard it may be, if you can keep your anger and frustration in check when you finally reach them on the phone, and can make a human connection, you get better service.
