    ......Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol, just what I needed after finishing The 900 Days :) .  But again, I'm reading it fast.

    I suppose the most recent book with a leading 'anti-hero' that I read would have to be R.S. Surtees' Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour, again picked up at the main used book haunt a while back.  It's now sitting at the book swap locale, unclaimed for many months now.

        ......the seamy side of NYC, @ 1990's (and probably not radically different today in the really poor areas).  I have 2 other JK books, including another one I've had for decades that I need to get to (Illiterate America).
