    What is needed is to change the public perception of gun ownership.  It has started and needs to continue.

    Gun ownership needs to be treated like cigarette smoking - used to be socially acceptable, now smokers are restricted and smoking is regarded as a negative behavior.  We need to make gun ownership something that 75% of the country regards as unnecessary and not to be done in public.  People can continue to own guns, they can continue to shoot in restricted areas, but they can't carry them into public places and will be fined (at a minimum) if they do.

    And please don't tell me the Second Amendment forbids any of that - people are still allowed to have guns, just not to wave them in my face.
