  •  You are safer with a dog than a gun (16+ / 0-)

If this woman was attacked which seems like one of the lesser probability options (lots of ways to come to grief in 10 degree weather) she would have been safer with a dog than carrying a gun.   The dog will sense what is happening much faster than you can.   Heck, the dog may even pull you out of the river if you have treated it nicely.

Robbers steal guns and fear dogs.   (I mean a mutt type dog, not one of those frufru things that people do sometimes steal because they are insane.)

If you are attacked you will probably not realize that you are in a dangerous situation until it is too late to use the gun (or pepper spray, unfortunately.)   Unless you are totally paranoid and insane you just won't be ready for a surprise attack.   I was completely unready to confront robbers.

Guns did nothing to help the four police officers who were shot while sitting in a coffee shop in Tacoma.    The bullet proof vests didn't help, either.
