When you use earbuds it also raises your blood pressure. When using headphones & earbuds you have to be especially careful not to crank up the sound.

Yes, the problem is often not just loudness, but most importantly clarity.  I can't deal with fast talkers, as most are today.

Since this is a Democratic site - it should be noted that the Obama campaigns are the first to close caption their ads on TV & You Tube.  A lot of the stuff from the WH is also closed captioned.

Very distressed about Sen Harkin retiring.  Although I can't blame him.  He is such a champion for any service/regulations to help the hearing impaired.

and I was a tutor/notetaker for students at that school.

So, he had good resources on hand and lots of peers to communicate with on how they managed their own situations, but he was still living in the hearing culture at that point and was showing signs of doing all he could to act out what he thought that affiliation should entail.  He didn't identify with deaf culture per se, and accepted his hearing impairment as an inconvenience - even though it was profound enough by that time to require folks like me to help him understand what was being said in classes, etc.

That's why I am so well informed about deafness.  Because Rochester as an area has made so many adjustments for hard of hearing & deaf culture.  I don't get to as many meetings as I used to - but there is an active chapter there of HLAA - Hearing Loss Association of America there.  I don't sign, and am not really a part of deaf culture.  My audiologist is also in Rochester.  She is worth the trip.

Yes, he should have rec'd a lot of help there.  Some may be due to his age.  By your 40's you wise up.

Thanks for trying to help him.

We just got rid of Ann Marie Buerkle (R - tea bagger) as House Rep for the Syracuse area.  She did nothing for anyone with any sort of disadvantage, despite having been a nurse.  We've known Dan Maffei for a while now.  He's much better.
