    applies to families.  My abuser was my grandfather - and as children we are taught to respect our adults, etc.

    No one is above reproach when it comes to protecting the most innocent among us.  The effects of childhood sexual abuse are life long (click the link for additional information),

      I have some contact with a local group that represents victims of clergy abuse and have learned much about abuse issues from them.

      What made me think of this was reading about a young boy who was being abused by the priest that his family had over for dinner once a week. His parents considered this man to be a saint and that message got through loud and clear to this boy. So of course he didn't feel he could say anything about the abuse and internalized it as something that he was doing wrong and that he must have deserved this treatment because he was a sinner.
